Greetings from Athens!

This has been an exciting fall at UGA. The university was recently named #13 in the US News and World Report ranking of best public national universities. The capital campaign is going very well, with a new fundraising record ($242 million) set again in FY18. The first African American graduate of UGA (Ms. Mary Frances Early, who earned a master’s degree in 1962) was recently honored with a documentary and portrait (see back cover) that hangs in the Administration Building. We’ve just honored eight outstanding individual Graduate Alumni at the 2018 Graduate Alumni of Distinction event. I never cease to be amazed by the accomplishments of our students and alumni.

In this edition of the UGA Graduate magazine, you will meet seven amazing UGA graduate students. These talented individuals are working in a variety of disciplines, from music to medicine to agriculture. One of the featured students has just joined the Graduate School staff as its first Director of Experiential Professional Development. In this position, he is poised to provide UGA graduate students with the exposure they need to make informed decisions about their career paths. This edition also includes an alumni update which features Stephanie Bolton, a plant pathologist and wine educator who you met in the Winter 2015 edition of the magazine.
